How Music Play an Important Roll in Healthy Living

How Music Play an Important Roll in Healthy Living

Healthy living is generally defined by how physically healthy you are, right? For example, if you have a cold or are sick, you are considered unhealthy. If you have a life altering disease such as cancer or H.I.V., you are unhealthy. But does that mean that it is entirely physical? No Way! Health is also made up by your mental health. Ponder this, the kind of music you listen to generally affects your mood. Here is a perfect example: I I used to listen to Hard Rock and was very wild, a trouble maker, energetic, and lots of fun! Now that I have matured in age, I listen to lighter music and I am more calm, laid back, careless, and less energetic.

Now focus on music and creating your mood. Again, going back to the metal music, how does that make you feel when you hear it? I know from experience that heavy music gets my adrenaline rushing, my heart pounding, my head pulsing. In short, it sends me into overdrive! How does t make you feel when you listen to music? Let us go to the opposite side of the spectrum and use classical music as an scenario. If you are listening to a song composed by Beethoven, what is your mood? I am generally feeling very upper scale, sophisticated, makes me feel like expanding my knowledge, reading a novel, enriching my life. It puts me in a totally different frame of mind. How does it make you feel?

So how does this make you live healthier? The right kind of music can help your mood and personality improve, creating a positive and happy outlook on life. It is a proven fact that a happier person lives an extended life and is in better mental and usually physical health than someone who is always concerned about something, upset, and unhappy. The human body was not designed to deal with stress all the time. That is where disease stems from. Think of the word, “dis” “ease”. That means there is not ease in the human body, mental stress can be the cause of this. Music can be the fix.

Music can be a great enjoyment for all involved. How great do you feel when you hear your favorite song come on the iPod or radio? How does it make you feel when you hear a song you do not enjoy? Not that great right?

Let us talk about movies. What about horror movies, what kind of music do they play? Most play really creepy high pitched, fast paced scary soundtracks, others have gotten smart and play NOTHING musically. This is smart because mentally, with no music, your mind plays tricks on you. Do you recall the Blair Witch Project? It was a low budget flick, and done with no soundtrack. Somehow it still was one of the most watched and popular horror movies of the time.

What about your feel good movies? Next time you get a chance, watch Disney’s Enchanted? It is a musical all in its own that has light, soft, dance in the street, hug your neighbor, charming music. It could make you feel very caring and uncharacteristically in the mood to sing in the streets. Disney knew what they were doing with this. As with most Disney movies the music is key. It puts the audience in the mood and gives them something to look forward to.

What about action movies, what type of soundtrack do they have? I would say fast paced rock, techno, heavy music? Think about one of the best action movies ever – The Matrix. The theme song is a fast paced bass guitar riff. It puts me in the mind frame to do some damage! Not the most positive mood, but still, makes me happy at that time.

What does all this music stuff have to do with being healthy? Discover what makes you happy and concentrate your efforts on that type of music. Do not attempt to trick yourself; you know what it is that makes you feel the best. Enjoy the knowledge that you now have on living just a little bit healthier with music and share this with your family.
